Memorial Day thoughts

Memorial Day is a time for us to offer tribute and honor those heroes who have laid down their lives to preserve our freedom. Memorial Day is also a time when we gather with friends and family to commemorate this public holiday. I wish you and your family a safe and memorable Memorial Day weekend.

Be sure to thank our living veterans this weekend too! Without them we might not be celebrating this occasion.

No holiday plans? Then take a Memorial Day road trip and head over to Utica OH. You can catch the 36th annual “Olde Fashioned” ice cream festival being held at Velvet Ice Cream factory. Tour the factory, enter an ice cream eating contest or enjoy the classic car show. There are plenty of things for all ages!

Airline summer surcharges add up

Your summer vacation just got more expensive, as the five largest US airlines introduced "peak air travel surcharges" virtually every day while school is out for much of the country.

The airlines have done this by slapping a surcharge for flying on a so-called “peak travel Day,” according to an analysis published by USA Today.

Surcharges are up to $30 for each one-way domestic fight. These are included in the cost of a ticket, says FareCompare.com, which analyzed airfare data.

Ouch!

Traveling with a friend-maybe?

“I have found out that there ain’t no surer way to find out whether you like people or hate them than to travel with them.” – Mark Twain

I agree 100%! Hit the road with a friend-be it that just a friend or maybe this is your first road trip with a new boy friend/girl friend and after a few days you will have passed and/or failed the compatibility test.

Believe me & Mr. Twain-it works!

Travel thought for the day

"In America, there are two classes of travel: First class, and with children." -- Robert Benchley

I'm sure that those of us who have had the pleasure of traveling with children concur with Mr. Benchley!

More questions on cruise cabins

Here’s another question for all of you seasoned cruisers-what’s the best cabin location on the ship? Is it towards the bow (front)mid-ship or aft (the back)?

How about the decks does it really matter if you're on a lower or higher one?

Let me know your preferences!

Happy travels!

Cruise cabin questions

I was recently asked" Which type of cruise cabin is best? An inside room without a view, room with a window or a cabin with a balcony?"

How about location-forward, mid ships or aft?

I'd like to get some views from you seasoned sailors!

Care to guess my preference/answer?

Ironton in Bloom plant sale

Ironton In Bloom will have its third annual plant sale on Depot Square at the corner of Second and Vernon Streets on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Individual greenery such as sweet potato vine, heuchera, and other plants will be available along with various-sized pots of geranium, petunias, including hanging pots of wave petunias, all suitable for Mothers' Day giving.

These plants have been locally grown and are suitable for our climate.

Proceeds from this sales are re-invested in their efforts to add color and plant scape to the community.

Their spring plantings are also being displaying on Saturday so cruise on over to I-town and spend some time but most importantly add some color to the community.
Of course the color as in the green of US currency.

Just got "re certified" Sandals style!

I’ve just been “Sandalized!" Actually I’ve been recertified as Sandals Specialist as I completed an intensive 1 day seminar. This workshop focused on all the updates at the Sandals and Beaches Caribbean properties. I’ve been fortunate in my travels to have visited most of these grand resorts but it’s time to revisit and reeducate myself on the updates.

Sandals and Beaches are not inexpensive, nor the perfect resort for everyone but they offer the best deluxe vacation value that I’ve seen in the Caribbean. For destination weddings, family or class reunions or just or getaway from it all the service here cannot be surpassed.

For more information on a Sandals or Beaches getaway contact scall@callstravel.com or your favorite travel professional.
