General Washington says "goodbye" to his tropps

On this day in 1783, future President George Washington, then commanding general of the Continental Army, summons his military officers to Fraunces Tavern in New York City to inform them that he will be resigning his commission and returning to civilian life

Fraunces Tavern still stands down in the Wall Street District of NYC. It’s one of those off the beaten paths NYC tourist spots!
The tavern is a short walk from Battery Park one the Statue of Liberty ferry departure points. Ground Zero is not too far away either.

The Fraunces is well worth the visit!

It is time to organize a history trip to the Big Apple…of course
during baseball season too!
